The replacement helipad for the original location was always going to be a temporary solution to the volume of use and confines of the previous site.
Whilst it was in a less restrictive setting, it was not lit for 24 hour operation, was more than 3 times as far from the A&E Department as the original and required an ambulance transfer through a crowded new car park, rather than straight onto a trolley (gurney).
By the end of 2017 / early 2018 it looked like the funding for a permanent solution had been acquired.
