In June 2022, Germany selected the Boeing Chinook, teamed with Airbus, over the Sikorsky CH-53K in the Heavy Lift Helicopter Competition (STH). The program has over 10 German companies as partners.
In May 2023 was approved the Foreign Military Sale (FMS) of 60 Chinook helicopters valued at $8.5B based on the Block-2 but with custom modifications including an extended range and aerial refueling capability
