AgustaWestland, June 14, 2003 - The Malaysian Fire Department (Bomba) have now received their two A109 Power helicopters from AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica and GKN company.
The acquisition of the new A109 Power will allow Bomba to perform its demanding missions by virtue of the Power's performance and multi-role capability.
The Malaysian configuration is the first to be equipped with a flexible interior that permits rapid change of cabin layout from utility to SAR/EMS or VIP.
The aircraft are fitted with single-pilot IFR, rescue winch, cargo hook, loudspeaker, tactical radio, homing antenna and a FLIR system.
They can be also equipped with emergency floatation, survival kit and fast roping capability. The helicopters are fully equipped to perform not only dedicated fire fighting missions, but also search and rescue, land reconnaissance and general support duties for the Department.
The benefits of the A109 include unrivalled performance with a maximum speed of 156 knots and high hover ability in extreme climatic conditions. The Bomba is the latest Government agency to select the A109 Power, which has now racked up 300 sales, including civil operators, since its launch in 1997.
