Samsung Techwin Co. Orders Two More AW139 Helicopters

AgustaWestland, June 17, 2013 - AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce that Samsung Techwin Co. of South Korea has ordered two more AW139 intermediate twin engine helicopters.

The helicopters will join Samung Techwin’s two others AW139s delivered in 2009 and 2010 to perform corporate transport and utility missions. These two additional aircraft are planned to be delivered in the second half of 2014.

AgustaWestland’s Head of Region, NE Asia, Andrew Symonds. said ”It gives us great pleasure that such an important customer has decided to further expand its fleet of AW139s, confirming the exceptional reputation of the type with this operator. The AW139 has proven highly successful in the Republic of Korea for a number of applications including VIP/corporate and utility transport, search and rescue, maritime patrol, firefighting and disaster relief. We are confident there’s even greater potential for this model in this market in the future.”

Samsung Techwin is a leading high technology company operating globally in business sectors such as electronics, security, defence, robotics and energy.

The AW139 is also operated by the Korea Coast Guard, Gangwon Fire Fighting Department, Gyeonggi Fire Fighting Department and Incheon Fire Fighting Department.

A new generation intermediate twin-turbine helicopter setting new standards in its category, the AW139 has been designed with inherent multi-role capability and flexibility of operation, offering unmatched performance and safety levels as well as the largest and the most comfortable cabin in its class. State-of-the-art mission-dedicated technology and equipment and outstanding performance features enable the AW139 to accomplish its mission in demanding conditions.

The AW139’s modern design ensures ease of maintenance and high availability due to reduced numbers of components, easy access to all the main systems by ground technicians, extended life-cycles for critical components and advanced diagnostics technology. Customers can also undertake a range of training courses on AW139 Level D Full Flight Simulators located around the world.

The AW139 helicopter is part of AgustaWestland’s Family of new generation helicopters that also includes the AW169 and AW189. These helicopters all possess the same high-performance flight characteristics and safety features whilst sharing the same common cockpit concept and design philosophy. This approach facilitates synergies for operators of more than one of these models in areas such as training, maintenance and support.

Orders for more than 720 AW139s have been placed by over 200 customers from almost 60 countries for many applications including VIP/corporate transport, EMS/SAR, law enforcement, offshore transport, firefighting, utility and other commercial and government roles.
