Since its founding in 1956, the company has delivered premium compact aerospace electronics relied upon in some of the world’s most demanding flight environments. The seven-decade milestone reflects a legacy rooted in German engineering excellence and a longstanding commitment to safety across general aviation, commercial transport, and special mission and military operations.
The company’s history began when entrepreneur Max Egon Becker founded Becker Flugfunkwerk at the Baden-Baden airfield following the lifting of the post-war Allied flight ban in Germany. Drawing on his experience designing luxury automotive radios, Becker developed lightweight, modular aircraft transceivers that quickly gained recognition for their reliability and innovation, including some of the industry’s earliest fully transistorized radios. Under the later leadership of his son Roland Becker, a commercial pilot who assumed sole ownership of the company in 1993, Becker Avionics adopted a strongly operator-focused philosophy while expanding internationally through subsidiaries in the United States, France, Brazil, Poland, and Taiwan.

Today, Becker Avionics equipment is integrated into fleets operated by major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), defense organizations, air traffic management providers, and law enforcement agencies worldwide. Its portfolio includes advanced digital intercom systems such as the AMU6500, along with compact Mode S transponders and ADS-B surveillance units specifically engineered for aircraft with limited panel space. Reflecting its continued growth and long-term investment strategy, the company recently returned to Baden-Baden Oos with the opening of a newly constructed €8 million headquarters focused on the development of next-generation digital cockpit technologies.
“Aviation safety depends on equipment performing exactly as expected, every single time,” said a company spokesperson. “As we look to the future, our focus remains on delivering compact, durable, and highly practical solutions that reduce crew workload while supporting operations in the most demanding environments.”
Becker Avionics Products
Over the past seven decades, Becker Avionics has developed a broad portfolio of compact airborne communication, navigation, surveillance, and intercom systems designed for both retrofit and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) applications. The company is particularly recognized for its lightweight VHF/UHF radios, Mode S transponders, ADS-B surveillance units, audio management systems, and emergency locator technologies engineered for high reliability in restricted cockpit environments.
Among its flagship product lines is the AMU6500 digital intercom and audio management system, developed to support complex multi-crew operations with advanced audio routing and communication integration. Becker Avionics also manufactures compact transponders and cockpit communication systems widely used across helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft, law enforcement fleets, and military special mission platforms, with many systems optimized for aircraft where panel space and weight limitations are critical operational factors.
