Sweet Helicopters, May 29, 2024 - Sweet Helicopters topped its previous record this year for charter passengers flown to the brickyard. More than 450 people trusted Sweet Helicopters to help them beat race day traffic, lapping last year’s total of 350 people.
Guests could depart from one of four convenient locations in the Indianapolis metro area. Pilots would then fly passengers high above the traffic and long lines, landing outside turn two of the racetrack for the 108th running of the Indianapolis 500.
Tim Edmonds, Vice President of Aviation said, “The Indianapolis 500 is considered ‘the greatest spectacle in racing.’ We believe visitors shouldn’t have to navigate through slow, dense traffic to experience the high-speed, adrenaline-pumping action of the big race.”
Sweet Helicopters has served as the official helicopter service provider for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway since 2017.
Bob Bailey, Director of Business Development, said that he’s proud more and more race fans are choosing Sweet Helicopters, but he’s even more proud of his team’s commitment to safety, ensuring all flights reached their destination without incident.
“Sunday’s storms and rain delays posed a significant challenge, but we anticipated that and adapted well,” he said. “No one who booked with us was left waiting for a ride. We efficiently flew in every single passenger prior to the IMS grandstand closure, at which point we relocated our nine helicopters to outlying airports to avoid the approaching lightning.”
The helicopter rotors began spinning again as soon as it was safe to do so, chartering passengers back to their initial pickup locations post-race.
“It was a long day for our team,” said Bailey. “But they all did a magnificent job of accommodating every passenger’s needs.”
