Helis, July 16, 2018 - As an example of extensive cost-cutting measures his government will undertake, Mexico new president-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador mentioned cancelling the pending purchase of 8 Sikorsky MH-60R Seahawk.
On April 2018 was announced a Foreign Military Sale (FMS) of 8 MH-60R shipborne helicopters and support equipment for Mexico's navy valued $1.2 billion.
The advanced aircraft was said were intended to help Mexico fight criminal organizations. Mexico naval air arm already operates UH-60M Black Hawk, AS565 Panther, EC725 Caracal, MD902 Explorer, Mi-8/17 and Bo105 in a not very common mixed fleet.
During the campaign, Lopez Obrador said of the helicopter deal, "We don't want war or an arms race, we want peace, and peace comes from justice."
Lopez Obrador also told Boeing that the presidential jet acquired in 2016, a 787, will be sold. "I'm not going to get on that plane" he said.
