The Aurora Engineering Partnership and the MoD’s Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) team published the fourth edition of Annual Review of the Engineering Delivery Partner (EDP) programme

The Aurora Engineering Partnership is formed by QinetiQ, Atkins (SNC-Lavalin Group) and BMT and was appointed in 2018 by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) as their Engineering Delivery Partner for Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S)

Fourth Review of Engineering Delivery Partner (EDP) Programme
QinetiQ, February 09, 2023 - The latest Annual Review published by The Aurora Engineering Partnership and the MoD’s Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) team has highlighted the ongoing efficiency savings, new ways of working and significant operational benefits being delivered by the Engineering Delivery Partner (EDP) programme.

The report for EDP’s fourth year of operation ( PDF download ) showcases a number of notable successes, the evolution of EDP’s engineering delivery, financial savings around service delivery, the continued development of the EDP Provider Network and the growth of Futures Lab, now into its second year.

Powered by EDP, this service provides impartial insight at the cutting edge of science and technology through the use of collaborative teams drawn from across industry and academia.

Simon Galt, Managing Director of the Aurora Engineering Partnership, who is responsible for delivering the EDP service, says:

“The DE&S ambition for EDP continues to grow and Aurora is well placed to respond to this. We enjoy a productive and collaborative relationship between our leadership teams, one where there is high support and robust challenge. Aurora holds a privileged position at the heart of DE&S Engineering Strategy, and we will continue to work hard to make a difference across the whole of the engineering ecosystem.”

The latest Annual Review also provides insight around Aurora’s drive to improve innovation around delivery, with focus on new working practices, as well as effective deployment of world class tools. The programme continues to deliver operational efficiency as EDP responds to the ever-changing and increasing demands of customers.

In the last 12 months, the programme has surpassed the £1 billion mark for total contracted work since 2018. There has been a significant investment in tools and systems that allows all parties to review and interrogate collective performance, and to drive improvement through action.

Paul Belcher, Head of Engineering Group, DE&S says that EDP’s focus over the past year has looked at ways to modernise DE&S’ approach to engineering:

“A truly collaborative mind-set and a deep-rooted commitment to transparency within the Engineering Delivery Partner (EDP) programme is helping to maximise and accelerate outputs for vitally important MOD programmes”. An example of this can be seen in the work undertaken on the New Medium-Weight Helicopter (NMH) programme, with the creation of a ‘One Team’ approach where innovation was brought across the full scope of the programme. My ambition for the partnership remains high as we look to further improve the performance of EDP.”
