Pinal County, August 27, 2025 - FLORENCE, AZ – The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office has added a new Airbus H125 helicopter to its Aviation Unit. The aircraft, commonly referred to as an A-Star, enhances the agency’s ability to conduct life-saving and enforcement operations.
The H125 was obtained through funding provided by the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs. DEMA is funding a lease through October 2027, then PCSO has the option to buy the helicopter for $1.
Sheriff Ross Teeple spent part of his career as a Search and Rescue deputy and later commanded the Aviation Unit at PCSO. “Search and Rescue has always been one of my favorite parts of law enforcement,” Teeple said, “and I am thrilled to have this new tool available for our deputies and the citizens of Pinal County.”
It is the county’s second helicopter that is also equipped with a hoist system. The H125 is more fuel efficient and has lower operating costs than the current UH-1 Huey. PCSO will keep the Huey for its ability to operate in higher temperatures and elevations. The Huey also has a higher capacity for more crew, and rescue subjects can be carried inside the cabin.
Along with Arizona DEMA, Hangar One Avionics and Airbus were extremely supportive of the project. The H125 is outfitted with advanced technology, including a Trakka Systems thermal imaging (IR) camera, Trakka mapping software, and a Trakka spotlight, which will assist in patrol and search operations. The helicopter also includes state-of-the-art safety features such as traffic alert systems, live weather capabilities and autopilot.
PCSO’s new A-Star is one of the most advanced aircraft of its kind in law enforcement and is expected to significantly increase safety for both deputies and the public during enforcement and rescue operations.
