Polish Border Guard, February 03, 2020 - Past January 3 in Huwniki, Deputy Chief Commander of the Polish Border Guard (SG) Brigadier Wioleta Gorzkowska presented the new helicopter Airbus H135 / EC135P3H which will be operated by the Bieszczady division of the SG.
The conference was also attended by the Director of the SG Aviation Office Colonel Paweł Żurek, Chief of the Bieszczady Border Guard Department Brigadier Robert Rogoz, Head of the 4th Department of Aviation in Huwniki, lieutenant Krzysztof Sidor and other staff.
“The expectations of the Border Guard, which protects not only Polish borders but also those of the European Union, are very high. That is why I am glad that in carrying out our statutory tasks we had invest in modern technologies”, said Deputy Chief Commander of the Border Guard Brigadier Wioleta Gorzkowska.
“Bieszczady Border Guard Unit protects a very specific region, which is formed by mountains in the south, constituting a very difficult area, and the lowlands in the north”, explained the Commandant of the Bieszczady Border Guard Unit Brigadier Robert Rogoz. “Taking this into account, we need modern equipment that will support us in our daily tasks”
”The fully equipped EC135P3H helicopter is the most modern aircraft of this type in Poland”, adds the Director of the SG Aviation Office Colonel Paweł Żurek.
The new aircraft will be used to implement tasks in the protection of the state border as observation and reconnaissance activities aimed at counteracting illegal migration and combating smuggling. The helicopter will be based at the Border Guard air station in Huwniki.
The twin-engine EC135P3H with built-in additional equipment was manufactured in 2019. It has a FLIR Star Safire and a searchlight from Trakka Systems. In a configuration without an aerial observation system it can carry 7 people on board.
The maximum flight duration is 3 hours 30 minutes while the maximum speed is about 270 km/h.
The purchase of a helicopter, worth approx PLN 46.5 million ($11M), was financed from the "Program for the Modernization of the Police, Border Guard, State Fire Service and the State Protection Service for the years 2017-2020".
