Chilean Helicopter Company to Reduce Carbon Footprint

Ecocopter is the first Chilean helicopter operator to join the Clean Flight program, a public/private initiative that seeks to design and implement a national sustainable aviation program in Chile

The "Clean Flight" (Vuelo Limpio) initiative seeks to reduce carbon footprint

Ecocopter, April 21, 2022 - Santiago, Chile - The Clean Flight program is a public/private initiative that seeks to design and implement a national sustainable aviation program, led by Chile's Energy Sustainability Agency (AgenciaSE) and supported by the Civil Aeronautics Board.

The aim is to improve the efficiency of freight and passenger transportation in the civil aviation industry, promoting good practices in energy management by airlines and aeronautical companies.

Thus, at the International Air and Space Fair (FIDAE), it was announced that other companies in the national aviation world joined Vuelo Limpio, to advance in the use of sustainable energy and reduce the carbon footprint in the aviation ecosystem.

It should be noted that in the first instance Vuelo Limpio only had the participation of commercial airlines such as JetSMART, LATAM and SKY, however, now, it already has the incorporation of Airbus, in addition to Nuevo Pudahuel and Ecocopter; the first helicopter company in Chile that is committed to reduce its emissions, reduce its carbon footprint and, thereby, promote the use of cleaner energy.

" We are pleased to participate in this initiative as the first helicopter company in Chile, and in turn, we are implementing it in our operations in Peru and Ecuador. With this, we are committed to continue advancing and developing sustainable improvements in our energy management processes to operate in a greener and more sustainable way. As Ecocopter, one of our pillars is precisely to be participants in the care of the planet and we have set ourselves the great challenge of achieving the sustainability of our operations and move in the coming years towards the use of clean energy, free of emissions," says Marcelo Rajchman, Corporate CEO of Ecocopter.

Clean Flight is an initiative managed collaboratively by the Civil Aeronautical Board (JAC) and the Energy Sustainability Agency, responsible for providing tools and promoting the development of pilot projects, through support in the development of action plans for signatory airlines.

"Vuelo Limpio will collaborate with airlines to improve energy and environmental management, identifying opportunities to reduce fuel consumption and developing guidelines and tools. In this way, we hope to contribute to the national civil aviation industry's progress in meeting the goals of the energy route and international standards," emphasizes Mariana Pavón, deputy director of Contents of the Energy Sustainability Agency.

In the first stage, the program will establish a fuel consumption baseline associated with each flight, and indicators such as liters of fuel per passenger-kilometer or greenhouse gas emissions will be generated. This will provide detailed information on national aviation activity and promote effective and informed decision making in terms of technologies and best practices for fuel saving and energy efficiency.

A program that also seeks to promote the use of cleaner technologies such as sustainable aviation fuels and green hydrogen (H2V), in addition to developing energy efficiency pilots in the airline industry. The AgenciaSE and the JAC will award the Cleaner Flight Certification to those airlines that have reported their emissions data for a calendar year. In a second stage, recognition will be given to companies that implement the recommendations worked on together to consolidate energy efficiency management and mitigate and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

About Ecocopter: A company that covers the need to provide efficient and fast aerial solutions to solve the most diverse situations, provides highly complex helicopter services in passenger transport, cargo, off-shore, forest fire fighting and aeromedical transfers, in Chile, Ecuador and Peru, among other services. In addition, Ecocopter has one of the most modern fleets in the Southern Cone, has its own Maintenance Center (CMA) and an Engine Workshop (Safran Turbomeca), a category 5+ flight simulator, which allows to have the equipment available for a quick response to the demands of the operation.
