INAER, May 08, 2015 - INAER Portugal and the Portuguese National Institute for Medical Emergencies (INEM) have been working jointly on their participation in the 2nd International Fair on Civil Protection and Safety, “SEGUREX 2015”, held in Lisbon.
Without doubt, this is Portugal’s most important event in the world of safety and protection and it showcases the latest trends in protection and prevention.
One of the main attractions of this fair was the HEMS simulator developed by the health department at INAER. This cabin, equivalent to the flight deck of a Bell B412helicopter, enables training sessions and full programmes to be carried out in the various medical emergencies that might arise in flight: cardio-respiratory failure, haemodynamic alterations, the need for advanced manipulation of the airways and managing health-care resources in a confined space, among others.
Within a controlled, virtually real setting, the HEMS crews can conduct their practical training and drill specific aspects of their day-to-day missions and learn how best to manage each situation in light of the characteristics and status of the patient and the mission.
In this way, INAER Portugal and the INEM enjoyed an outstanding position at the event, informing those attending of the experience in medical emergency services.
INAER Portugal has been responsible for the INEM’s airborne health services since 2000 and currently operates a fleet of 7 AW A109E Power helicopters, distributed over 4 operating bases that operate 24/7.
