Intended to be a covert operation mounted by South African Defence Force to damage / destroy the Petrangol refinery near Luanda, during the war with Angola, to hinder the supply of petroleum products to Angolan forces.
It was only partially successful due to use of explosives with some defective timers, which limited the damage caused and killed and injured some of the SA Special Forces team members. The plan had been to blame the UNITA guerillas but injured troops and equipment left at the scene provided evidence for investigators, against the real perpetrators.
