ERMO 16 was designed to evaluate the expeditionary capacity and function of the member states of the European Amphibious Initiative (signed in 2000). 4000 people, including VTOL aircraft and nearly 20 helicopters were under the command of the Italian Navy. Logistic support was provided from Cagliari in Sardinia.
