
The Bulgarian Border Police (Granichna politsiya, Гранична полиция) is the national agency responsible for protecting Bulgaria’s land and maritime borders, which form part of both the European Union and the external Schengen frontier. Operating under the Ministry of Interior, the service conducts surveillance, patrols, and border control operations along Bulgaria’s borders with Greece, Türkiye, Romania, Serbia, and North Macedonia, as well as its Black Sea coastline. Its aviation unit operates helicopters supporting missions including search and rescue, maritime patrol, anti-smuggling operations, and migration monitoring. As a member of European FRONTEX mission, the Bulgarian Border Police regularly participates in joint EU operations and contributes to maintaining regional and European border security.
