The politics of the area was changing; after the Unilateral Declaration of Independence from the UK on 11 Nov 1965, Southern Rhodesia became a republic on 2 Mar 1970. The rank structure was modified and the national markings changed. The RRAF was renamed the Rhodesian Air Force on 8 Aug 1970.
