Originally created a Joint Venture between Serco Group and Denholm Group to bid for a Private Finance Initiative contract for replacement of services previously operated by the Royal Maritime Auxiliary Service, which disbanded on 31 Mar 2008. Serco bought the Denholm interest out around 2009.
It operates a number of smaller vessels mainly involved in in-shore support of the Royal Navy and the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, although it does have some larger vessels which can operate overseas.
