The 881 Sqn has been established in 1995 with 10 Alouette III helicopter handed over from the Royal Malaysian Air Force. The squadron was declared as an operational squadron in 1997. This is the Malaysian Army first aviation squadron. The role of the squadron is to perform the task as an air recon squadron to the army. In near future, the squadron is expected to be equipped with newly ordered A 109.
