The Kamov Ka-50 Akula (NATO name Hokum) was the first
coaxial gunship helicopter.
It was developed in the 1980s but only adopted for service in the Russian Army in late 1990s
which preferred the Mi-28 Havoc.
Contrary to other gunships, the Ka-50 Hokum-A was a a single seat helicopter. Kamov, jointly with Israeli Air Industries, developed a tandem-seat cockpit version for the export market, named Ka-52 Alligator NATO name Hokum-B.
