The USAAF 389th Bomb Group was resident during WWII and after war it eventually was bought as the Lotus high performance car manufacturing and test plant. Parts of the original runways have been returned to farm land, but the taxi-ways have been improved as part of the test track. By c 2000, Proton Cars had also set up its UK head office on the site.
