RAF Brize Norton opened in Aug 1937 as part of Flying Training Command. The site was a USAF base between Apr 1951 and Apr 1965, when it returned to RAF as part of Transport Command. It became the base for the RAF fleet of C-130 Hercules, in 2012 when RAF Lyneham closed.
