Became the second helicopter base for the recently formed Protection Civile, oriented toward maritime rescue and communications with the islands off the Brittany coast, on 25 Nov 1956 with the arrival of a Bell 47G. In 1977, just after the formation of the Sécurité Civile, a dedicated new base is constructed just to the north of the main perimeter road around the Lann Bihoue Aeronautique Naval base.
