The Jordanian Air Base opened in 1969, on the site of a former airstrip alongside the Iraq Petroleum Company pumping station on the Mosul - Haïfa pipeline.
Since Nov 2014, the base has been used in support of French forces for Operation Chammal. During Aug 2021 a Mamba anti-missile system was installed for force protection and defence.
