The Carpinteria Field (which sits beneath the State/Federal boundary at 3 miles offshore) was discovered in 1964 by Standard Oil in the Lower Pliocene Pico Formation at a depth of c 3800ft. Subsequent deeper drilling identified a subthrust section of Pico Formation at c 6000ft.
First production from Houchin was in 1968 and the Henry platform also drains this field.
