RAF Locking was built in 1938 and opened in Jan 1939 as a Technical Trades Camp, No 5 School of Technical Training. It was a non flying base (although much later it was to gain a helicopter landing spot in the middle of its parade ground) and any Ground Instructional Airframes generally arrived by road from adjacent Weston-super-Mare airfield.
It was also a specialist electrical and electronic centre, hosting No 1 Radio School, the airborne parts of which moved to RAF Cosford during 1965 but more and more of its activities were moved there from the mid 1990s and technical training ceased in 1998. The site was sold off and has been redeveoped for housing.
