Development of the field began in 2007 from the artifical island built up in < 2m of the Beaufort Sea on Alaska North Slope. Since 2008, the field produces from the Torok (mid Creataceous), Kuparuk (Lower Cretaceous) and Nuiqsut (Middle Jurassic) reservoirs.

The Oooguruk Field, in Alaskan waters, is significant as it straddles the major structural units of the Arctic Alaska Basin (AAB) and the Beaufortian Rifted Margin (BRM) - thought to be vital in hydrocarbon migration to their reservoir rocks.
