Sheeps Head Light marks the southern entrance to Bantry Bay mainly for the Whiddy Island oil terminal, and is relatively new. The remoteness of the site meant that the helipad was built at the time of construction (to allow materials and labour to be flown in) and the Light was first lit in Oct 1968.
