Although only officially opened in 1941, flying had begun as early as 1938. Operational flying at RAF Tain ceased in 1946 and the site was turned over to become one of the largest Air Weapons Ranges in the UK.

Small helipad to support the range on southern side of the Dornoch Firth, within Danger Area EG_D703 airspace.
