From flight testing, it was clear that the
Skeeter 1 was underpowered and that its cylinder heads became alarmingly hot after only 20 minutes or so. The Skeeter 2 was to address this by being equipped with a de Havilland Gypsy Major 20 engine. Apart from a more robust undercarriage, the biggest visual differences were the squaring off of the cabin glazing, so that it no longer enclosed the main rotor shaft and the change from a triangular section to a circular section tail boom, set at less inclined angle.
