The Bell 230 is a development of the model 222 with its Lycoming engines replaced by two Allison 250 turboshafts, plus other refinements including optional skid or wheel undercarriage. The prototype ( a converted 222 ) first flew on August 12, 1991. Production deliveries began in March 1992 and after 38 having been built by 1995 it was replaced by the Bell 430
