In 1987 Canada placed an order for 42 EH101 to be assembled locally in 2 main variants, 28
CH-148 Petrel as a shipborne helicopter to replace the
CH-124 Sea King and 15
CH-149 Chimo for SAR to replace the
CH-113 Labrador. In 1993 the new Canadian government cancelled the contract. The Chimo program evolved in the
CH-149 Cormorant (built entirely in Europe) and the Petrel was abandoned in favor of the
CH-148 Cyclone based on the Sikorsky S-92
