MD Helicopters MD564

The MD 564 was officially unveiled by MD Helicopters on March 9, 2026, at the Verticon trade show in Atlanta. Representing a major evolution of the iconic 500-series airframe, the aircraft is distinct for its hot rod configuration, featuring a six-bladed main rotor and a four-bladed tail rotor for the first time. This design integrates proven components, such as the Rolls-Royce 250-C47E/3 engine with dual-channel FADEC, to significantly boost performance—offering a 650-pound increase in internal payload and a 750-pound increase in external payload compared to the MD 530F.

As of early 2026, the MD 564 is in its development phase, with MD Helicopters pursuing a streamlined 16 to 18-month certification process. Because the aircraft utilizes existing type certification from the 530F, the company expects a fast track to flight testing and commercial availability. The first flight and subsequent entry into service are currently targeted for the first half of 2028. Future plans for the MD 564 focus on the utility and law enforcement sectors, where its compact 27.5-foot rotor diameter and high-altitude capabilities allow it to operate in confined or hot and high environments that typically require much larger, more expensive aircraft
