The S-76D is the latest variant of the Sikorsky S-76 which there have been more than 800 delivered since 1979. First flight was February 7, 2009 with type certification signed on October 12, 2012.
Standard equipment features are all-composite, flaw-tolerant main rotor blades; an advanced Thales integrated avionics system and autopilot; health and usage monitoring system (HUMS), active vibration control; and Pratt Whitney Canada PW210S engines.
Suffering great competition from more newer models such as the AW139, only a dozen of new S-76D were handed over between 2016 and 2020 reaching a total production of 90 aircraft.
By 2020 the S-76D was no longer compliant with FAA regulations to permit its sale to US-based customers and by March 2022 the S-76D was effectively out of production.
