Project JULIUS modified 38 Mk2/2A into the Mk4/4A and eight Mk3 into the Mk5 Chinook configurations.
These Hc2/HC3 aircraft received a major modernization and comprehensive upgrade including a new digital "glass" cockpit with multifunction displays, a digital moving map, and an electronic flight bag, along with the installation of a nose-mounted Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) detector. This upgrade significantly improved the Chinook's operational capabilities, particularly for low-light and adverse weather conditions, bringing the older airframes up to a more modern standard.
