In May 2022, Australian Defence Force (ADF) ordered 29 Boeing AH-64E Apache attack helicopters as part of LAND 4503 Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH) Replacement Project for delivery from 2025 to replace the Airbus Tiger.
The first pair of AH-64E Apaches arrived at RAAF Base Townsville via a Royal Australian Air Force C-17A Globemaster in September 2025 and a second set of two helicopters was delivered in November. The remaining 25 aircraft are scheduled for delivery, with the full fleet expected to be complete by the end of 2028. Some official projections suggest final acceptance activities may continue into 2029.
The fleet is being assigned to the 1st Aviation Regiment, which is relocating to Townsville to operate alongside the CH-47F Chinook fleet.
