Australia ordered 14 Black Hawks on 29 May, 1986 with the first one flying at Sikorsky's Statford, Connecticut,
plant on 11 September 1987 and entering service with RAAF 9 Squadron on 27 February 1988.
In May 1987, an additional 25 Black Hawks were ordered. On February 15, 1989 the Black Hawks were transferred to the Australian Army.
The last of 38 locally-assembled Black Hawk by Hawker de Havilland (HdH) at Bankstown was delivered on 30 January 1991.
Australian Black Hawks served with 5th and 6th Aviation Regiment. The last Black Hawks were flown in support of special operations and retired on December 10, 2021
