In 1995 the Australian Army received four ex RAAF CH-47C (#102-106) which were converted to CH-47D standard. Two new built CH-47D-LR (#201 & 202) joined directly from Boeing in 2001.
They were deployed to Afghanistan between 2006 and 2013 where #102 was destroyed in May 2011 and #103 on June 2012.
In November 2011 were acquired two ex-US Army CH-47D (#151 & 152) which were handed over in June 2012.
As of 2016, #151 & 201 were the last in service. D Type replaced by CH-47Fs
