Sandpoint, Idaho – Timberline Helicopters Inc. (THI) has delivered the first FAA Restricted Category, U.S.-registered (N-registered) UH-60L Black Hawk helicopter to operate in Europe. The aircraft has been handed over to Spain's Airworks S.L., where it will support aerial firefighting and emergency response operations after the company secured the Galicia firefighting contract.
The delivery marks the culmination of an 18-month collaboration between THI and Airworks involving aircraft preparation, regulatory coordination, operational planning and certification activities required to introduce the UH-60L into European service.
Tyson Davis, President of Timberline Helicopters Inc. said “Today is a day of immense pride for our entire THI team. The delivery of the first Restricted Category N-Registered UH-60L in Europe reflects the dedication of countless professionals on both sides of the Atlantic. More importantly, it reflects the trust, partnership and friendship that have developed between THI and Airworks throughout this journey.”
According to THI, the project brought together aviation professionals, regulators, government representatives and industry stakeholders from multiple organizations to establish the framework for operating the aircraft in Europe.
THI also acknowledged the contribution of Airworks and the Tamame family, describing the relationship as one built on mutual trust, respect and long-term cooperation.
As part of the agreement, Airworks S.L. will become THI's forward operating support presence in Europe for UH-60 Black Hawk operators. The partnership is intended to improve maintenance support, technical assistance and operational responsiveness for current and future UH-60 operators across the continent.
THI said the delivery represents the beginning of a broader effort to expand Black Hawk capabilities for firefighting, emergency response, utility and special mission operations throughout Europe.
