Helis, September 16, 2025 - The Airbus H140 has successfully tackled “hot and high” conditions — scenarios where reduced air density and elevated temperatures can significantly impact aircraft performance.
As part of the campaign, the helicopter demonstrated its capabilities at altitudes reaching 3,048 meters (10,000 feet) in the Pyrenees, showcasing consistent power and handling in thin-air environments.
The trials also included operations in searing heat, with outside air temperatures exceeding 40°C (104°F). These extreme conditions put the aircraft’s engines and systems to the test, confirming operational resilience in some of the toughest climates.
The prototype aircraft, registered D-HEEY, logged 42 flight hours during the campaign. With this milestone, the H140’s total accumulated flight time reached 113 hours, underscoring its maturity and high reliability.
The H140 is the latest evolution in Airbus’s successful single-engine light helicopter family, designed to deliver outstanding performance in demanding operational environments. Equipped with a modern Helionix avionics suite and efficient Safran Arriel engines, it provides enhanced payload capacity, range, and safety features.
Interest in the H140 has been strong since its program launch, with more than 45 pre-orders already placed by operators worldwide. Customers span emergency medical services, law enforcement, and private operators seeking a versatile, high-performance helicopter for missions in challenging environments. First deliveries are expected to begin in 2028.
