Helicentre New Flight Instructor Course
UK Helicentre Aviation Academy has expanded the capability of its flight instructor career programme with the addition of a new Flight Instructor Course (FIC)
Helicentre Aviation, March 01, 2017 - Helicentre Aviation Academy has expanded the capability of its flight instructor career programme with the addition of a new Flight Instructor Course (FIC) instructor to meet demand for its professional pilot training courses.
Captain Simon Wiles is only the second UK helicopter pilot to successfully undergo the CAA assessment since the implementation of EASA, earning him the privilege to deliver FI(H) courses. Captain Wiles was trained by, and now works alongside the company’s Head of Training who was the first in the UK to gain the qualification under EASA in 2015.
The company’s investment in standards within the training industry has been significant, producing noticeable results in terms of quality and standardisation. Now, with two FIC instructors delivering year-round courses, more newly qualified FI’s can benefit from the invaluable opportunity to develop into highly skilled instructors within a structured and well supported training environment. Due to the demand created by the company’s Scholarship programme and BSc (Hons) degree course, places for the 2017 instructor courses are already fully booked and applications are now being taken for 2018 / 2019.
The Guimbal Cabri G2, the company’s flagship platform for ab-initio and professional training, has already been utilised for fourteen full flight instructor courses, as well as numerous PPL(H), CPL(H) and type rating courses totalling more than 9,500 flying hours. Several of the company’s home-grown instructors are now amongst the most experienced Cabri G2 flight instructors in the country, each having flown in excess of 1,500 hours on type. EASA ATO approval for the company’s Florida base is imminent, and this will introduce exciting career opportunities for company instructors to teach on a rotational basis on the Cabri G2 in the U.S.A.
The flight instructor career programme has provided new instructors with an opportunity to gain full-time employment or contract work resulting in a natural upwards progression into more advanced training and utility roles within the company. Others have rapidly moved into industry to take on corporate, police, HEMS and offshore roles worldwide as a result of hours flown and experience gained in a relatively short time whilst working as instructors and line pilots.
Members of the team will be on hand to offer training and careers advice at Pilot Careers Live in Dublin this Saturday, 4th March, and in London on the 22nd April. Existing commercial helicopter pilots and those exploring the possibility of a career flying helicopters are invited to stop by and talk with instructors and staff about training and employment opportunities.
