Vertical Aviation Technologies, July 15, 2023 - A unique Hummingbird 300L kit helicopter, built by Vic Syracuse of Georgia, will be on display at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh.
The aircraft features the first YH10-540-Exp373 Thunderbolt engine designed for the Hummingbird 300L helicopter.
The Thunderbolt engine has boosted performance with ported/polished cylinders, weight matched rotating assembly, and the customer’s choice of colors.
This engine is unique to the Hummingbird, with a 60-degree installation, special rocker box covers with drains, aerobatic sump, fuel injection and electronic ignition.
In 1991 the helicopter kit build industry was revolutionized by the introduction of the Hummingbird, the world’s first U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified helicopter to be sold in kit form.
Simple in design and easy to assemble, this concept of selling in kit form is said to reduce costs from the purchase price to operating expenses.

This helicopter went through stringent FAA certification, engineering and endurance testing, and has established a proven history over the years with no inherent problems with the design.”
