Forca Aerea Portuguesa, August 19, 2023 - On the 16th of August, the first flight of a UH-60 helicopter of the Portuguese Air Force took place at the Enterprise Municipal Airport in Alabama.
The flight, conducted with a crew from Arista Aviation Services (AAS), lasted approximately 30 minutes and was the first after the extensive and complex process of reconditioning and modernizing the helicopter. This process allowed for the verification of the proper functioning of its main systems.
Subsequent test flights will follow, during which all the helicopter's systems and equipment will be tested to ensure the aircraft's airworthiness. These tests are conducted before the acceptance process scheduled for the month of September.
This aircraft, identified by the tail number 29801, is the first of six UH-60 helicopters acquired by the Portuguese Air Force from AAS. The acquisition is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan and aims to provide the Portuguese State with its own firefighting capabilities for rural areas.
The second helicopter, with the tail number 29802, is in the final stages of the modification process, and its first flight is scheduled for early September.
