Germany Delivers Six Sea King to Ukraine
Bundeswehr, January 25, 2024 - Participants of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group initiated further military support to Ukraine at a video conference on January 23rd.

Germany is supplying Ukraine with six Sea King Mk41 multi-purpose Bundeswehr helicopters. Minister Boris Pistorius announced this at the 18th Ramstein Format.

Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said at the virtual ministerial meeting that the Bundeswehr was also conducting training for Ukrainian pilots in Germany. The German armed forces also supply Ukraine with spare parts for this type of helicopter. Submission will be possible from the second quarter of 2024.

“Ukrainians in many areas: from reconnaissance over the Black Sea to transporting soldiers. It is the first German delivery of its kind. The fact that Putin continues to accept the endless suffering of the Ukrainians for his war of aggression should not leave us cold. Therefore, for me there can be two conclusions in particular: For the protection of the Ukrainian population and infrastructure, air defense remains the number 1 priority.”

Pistorius described it as admirable how bravely the people of Ukraine and their armed forces defended themselves against the Russian aggressors. Ukraine's determination inspires the whole world. Germany continues to stand unwaveringly at Ukraine's side and will not let up in its support, the German Defense Minister assured his Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umjerow, who also took part in the video conference.

At the video conference, Pistorius expressly thanked those partners and allies who had already given firm commitments to the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Coalition. They take over the management of defined tasks: These include France and the USA, which are responsible for the area of “ Architecture and Systems” . Pistorius went on to thank Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland and Spain.

Germany is receiving great recognition from its allies and partners for its leadership of this capability coalition in close cooperation with France and for its commitment to expanding and advancing this coalition. This was made particularly clear by the express thanks of US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, who chaired the Ramstein format conference from Washington. Lloyd Austin said urgently: The coalition of partners and allies must not let up in their support of Ukraine. Further efforts are necessary. “Ukraine’s fight is important to all of us,” said Lloyd Austin.

The minister followed up on the words of his American counterpart and made it clear: Ukraine's most urgent needs would be met. And the partners and allies give Kiev their commitment, even their promise, that support will continue in the future.

“ We also need more speed in arms production. Germany is taking on this dual task: On the one hand, we are covering Ukraine's most urgent needs here and now with weapons, materials and training. On the other hand, with the Air Defense Capability Coalition we promise long-term support with the most modern systems, the best training and sustainable structures, interoperable with the NATO armed forces”

“ We also plan to train 10,000 Ukrainian soldiers in Germany in 2024. ”
