Helis, June 10, 2019 - The dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Amelia Earheart (T-AKE 6) has a new helicopter on board.
Nicknamed “Megatron”, the Eurocopter EC225LP is operated by civilian contractor Air Center Helicopters on behalf the United States Navy's Military Sealift Command (MSC).
For almost two decades, the US Navy depended on older SA330 Puma helicopters to fulfill this mission.
The EC225 model first flew in 2003 and was renamed H225 in 2014 after manufacturer company rebranded to Airbus.
The pictures shows sailors aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Momsen (DDG 92), deployed with the 7th Fleet, connecting cargo nets during a replenishment-at-sea flight operation in the East China Sea.
Air Center Helicopters was founded in 1982 and provided chartered flights. Based in Fort Worth, Texas.
