Following weeks of heavier than usual rainfall across Perth and Kinross, Stirling, Argyll and Bute, during Aug 2004, further intense rain storms broke around Lochhearnhead and Crianlarich, falling on already saturated ground. Two landslides occurred along the narrow A85 section near
Glen Ogle. A southern landslide happened first and almost immediately the road was closed. However a more northerly slip then occurred, before vehicles had cleared the section. Culverts were blocked, debris covered the road and a number were stranded. Whilst some motorists were able to walk clear, 57 needed to be air-lifted out by SAR service Sea King.
