HK Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force

RHKAAF

Predecessor of the Government Flying Service. Formed on 1 May 1949. Disbanded 31 Mar 1993 and aircraft and duties handed over to the Government Flying Service. Originally formed as the Air Arm of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps in 1930. On 1 May 1949 this was renamed the Hong Kong Defence Force and its Air Arm became known as the Hong Kong Auxilliary Air Force. In 1970, Queen Elizabeth II granted the title Royal and it became the Royal Hong Kong Auxilliary Air Force. This was the last operational Commonwealth AAF, when it disbanded on 31 Mar 1993.
