Intermountain Life Flight is the specialized air medical transport arm of Intermountain Health, having commenced operations on July 6, 1978, as the seventh program of its kind in the United States. It provides critical care transport—often described as a "flying ICU"—using a diverse fleet of Agusta AW109 helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft equipped for neonatal, pediatric, and adult intensive care. Notably, it remains the only civilian air ambulance service in the nation licensed by the FAA to perform hoist rescue operations, allowing it to extract patients from rugged, inaccessible terrain. Following the 2021 acquisition of Classic Air Medical, the program was integrated into Intermountain Health Flight & Ambulance Services, creating one of the largest nonprofit medical transport networks in the country.
