Met Police Air Support Unit was formally launched on 26 Nov 1980 at Lippitts Hill with a mix of Bo.105 and Bell 222. The Met had used helicopters in a limited capacity for some years before but this was when a full time service was constituted.

London Metropolitan Police Helicopters in 2014, 02-Jan-15 : London Met’s Air Support Unit (ASU) attended 8,182 incidents, assisted in the arrest of 1,686 suspects and located 169 missing people.
