Northern Rescue is a joint venture between the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust (ARHT) and the Northland Emergency Services Trust (NEST) and is the contracted provider to Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora and ACC for emergency air ambulance helicopter services in the northern region of Aotearoa New Zealand. Northern Rescue Helicopter Ltd (NRHL) provides emergency aeromedical services across Northland and Auckland’s northern region, operating from bases in Whangārei and Auckland. The service was formed through a partnership between the Northland Emergency Services Trust (NEST) and the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust (ARHT) to streamline operations and improve efficiency while maintaining local expertise. NRHL’s fleet—known for its distinctive yellow paint scheme—regularly performs search and rescue missions, inter-hospital transfers, and rural emergency responses, covering some of New Zealand’s most remote coastlines and rugged terrain. Their long-range helicopters are essential for the Far North, where distances, weather, and limited road access make rapid aerial medical support critical.
