1980-1982 SH-3A type (last flying) HC-1 Det. 6 HC-1
“ 148989 now N81664 was the last flying "A" model in the Navy while attached to HC-1 Detachment 6 as COMSEVENTHFLT's VIP helo - "Blackbeard 01". I flew her and was also the Maintenance Officer and NATOPS/Instrument Instructor while attached to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron One Detachment 6 (HC-1 Det 6). We were the Commander 7th Fleet's VIP Detachment. We deployed on the Flag Ship USS Blueridge (LCC-19). In my office I have a model I had made of her while in the Philippines. I later took possession of our first Big Tail G model and the replacement helo of her so she was sent back to the US. Always wondered about her. Until 1979 the Detachment operated off the previous 7th Fleet Flag Ship, USS Oklahoma City. "Blackbeard 01" BUNO 148989 and the Detachment were on the previous 7th Fleet Flag Ship. ”
